Unpaid leave (teaching staff)
Step 1: Take the pro-rata salary (this can be found in the job role tab in the employees Edupay profile)
Step 2: Divide the Yearly salary by 365: £40,000 / 365 = £109.59
Step 3: Then divide 5 days by the max job role hours per week (this is found in the Job role in BPS)
i.e. 5/32.5 = 0.1538
Step 4: Use the figures from step 2 and 3 to complete the full formula
(FTE annual salary / 365 days) * (5 days /max job role hours per week) = Hourly rate
£109.59 x 0.1538 = £16.86 /HR
Step 5: Unpaid hours x rate = full day
6.5 hours per day x £16.86 = £109.59 Day rate of unpaid leave.
(Note: In regards to the above – the working pattern of the employee does not impact the calculation.)
Unpaid leave (support staff)
Step 1: Take the full Pay scale salary (not prorated)
Step 2: Divide the full none pro rate salary by maximum weeks in a year (set by the location)
(Usually 52 or 52.143 depending on school policy)
i.e. £40,000 / 52.143 = £767.12
Step 3: Divide the figure from Step 2 by the maximum number of hours on the role
(Note: Commonly 32.5 or 37 but can be found in the job role on BPS)
i.e. £767.12 / 32.5 = £23.60 Hourly rate.
