How to calculate sickpay

Modified on Wed, 21 Jan at 9:18 AM

The first step to calculate sick pay is to find the yearly salary of the employee, in Edupay this can be found in in the job role tab in their profile.

This employee earns £35,661 on a 1FTE.

Step 1: Divide yearly pro rata salary by 12: £35,661 / 12 = £2,971.75

Step 2: Divide monthly salary by working days in the month: £2,971.75 / 23 = £129.21 Full pay per day

(Note: be sure to check the employees working day pattern on the employment tab as they may not work 5 days)

Step 3: To apportion this into SSP and OSP we will need to minus of the statutory daily SSP amount of 23.75 (based on 5 working days) from the full pay amount.

£129.21 - £23.75 = £105.35 OSP

Full: £129.21

SSP: £23.75

OSP: £105.36

Step 4: If a day of sick is half pay the process for calculation is that they recieve 50% OSP + Statutory on top:

Full: £129.21 / 2 = £64.61 (OSP) + 23.75 (SSP)

OSP: £64.61

SSP: £23.75

(Note: OSP + SSP cannot exceed the full 100% pay figure, if so it is capped at 100%)
